Virtual Gallery
LCHM plays an important role in the preservation and promotion of Latgale ceramics – one of the most prominent brands of Latgale, researching and exhibiting ceramic collection items, recording potters’ biographies, documenting pottery craft inheritance process and the process of ceramic art in the workshops of many Latgalian ceramists. Every year LCHM together with Rezekne Region Council organizes Potter days and holds theoretical readings on the issues concerning folk applied art (including pottery).
The virtual museum gallery is represented by a collection of 500 LCHM ceramic objects, which are grouped in alphabetical order by their authors. There are exhibited mainly the works of Latgale ceramists and a wide range of Latgalian pottery (vases, pots, whistles, plates, money boxes, etc.). The descriptions of objects are in Latvian, but their titles are in Latvian, Latgalian, Lithuanian, English and Byelorussian.
In the virtual museum gallery there can be viewed the works of different sizes, colours, firing types – from miniature vases up to the evidence of mastery of the author – huge, impressive size floor vases, as well as reduced ( so-called “black ceramics”) ceramics and glistening glazed ceramics of different colours typical for ceramics of Latgale.
A large part of the objects exhibited in the virtual gallery can be seen in LCHM exhibition of Latgale ceramics “The wonder created by clay and fire transformations” as well as there is provided the opportunity to learn about important stock collection objects of Latgale ceramics, which are in the museum stock, but are not exposed and cannot be seen by visitors on a regular basis.
Beside the works of the classics of Latgale ceramics (Andrejs Paulāns Ādams Kāpostiņš , Ušpeļu family, Vinceviču family) the visitors can get to know about experiments and search for new ways of contemporary ceramists of Latgale. It helps to see the development of Latgale ceramics and its preservation traditions.
